HER STORY

About Dr. Garchar

Dr. Elizabeth Garchar is a native New Mexican, a Norteña, with deep roots in Santa Fe. Both of her parents are from Santa Fe, and her family’s connection to the community extends back hundreds of years. Her maiden family, the Rodriguez family, is recognized among Santa Fe’s historic founding families.

Dr. Garchar knew from an early age that she wanted to become a physician and care for pregnant patients and underserved communities. As a senior in high school, she was accepted into the combined BA/MD program, securing admission to both undergraduate studies and medical school.

Today, Dr. Garchar is board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her dedication to patient care and medical education, including receiving a Midwife Consultant of the Year award and being named an Outstanding Medical Student Teacher for seven consecutive years.

Teaching and mentorship remain an important part of her work. Dr. Garchar is passionate about mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows and continues to contribute to medical education as a Volunteer Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of New Mexico.

As the first physician in her family and a New Mexican caring for families in her home state, Dr. Garchar brings a deeply personal perspective to her practice. Her own experience with a high-risk third pregnancy gives her a unique understanding of the uncertainty and emotions that can accompany a complicated pregnancy.

As a mother of three, Dr. Garchar considers it a privilege to care for patients during one of the most meaningful and memorable times in their lives – the pregnancy and birth of their children.

Teaching & Mentorship

Beyond the Practice

When she isn’t caring for patents, Dr. Garchar enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters. Some of their favorite activities include running, reading, and trying new foods together.
